Ghostbusters Movie
June 8th, 1984 marked the epic beginning of the Ghostbusters Franchise with the release of their debut movie Ghostbusters. Columbia Pictures could not have predicted that this sci-fi oriented comedy would become such a large box office hit or the huge pop culture phenomenon it would later become. Fans instantly fell in love with the now all-star cast that includes Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, and Rick Moranis. Only two years after the Ghostbusters Movie swept the world off their feet came the release of The Real Ghostbusters. This animated television series entertained children of all ages for a total of five years. By the third season Columbia decided to rejuvenate the series with a newer youthful approach and retitled the show Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters. Just prior to pulling the plug on the animated series, came the release of the movie Ghostbusters 2. Although Ghostbusters 2 opened to mix reviews the film still broke the previous three-day opening weekend record of $52 million. This sequel solidified Ghostbusters as a successful movie franchise. With the success of the films and the television show Universal Studios decided to unveil it’s all new special effects show. Now Ghostbusters fans could watch the show, see the cartoon, and experience the excitement. The Ghostbusters Franchise also released a total of 8 video games for several platforms including an exciting Arcade game, The Real Ghostbusters. Atari has just recently announced the upcoming release of Ghobstbusters the Video Game. The Ghostbusters Video Game will be released later this year and will be available for Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, Playstation 3 as well as a few other formats. Also later this year Sony plans to release the original Ghostbusters Movie on Blu-ray. There have been rumors for several years that there are plans to release a Ghostbusters 3. On September 4th, 2008 Columbia signed a deal with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to create a script for the third feature in the Ghostbusters Franchise. Although at this time no deals will be made with the original cast until the script is finished, there is a working title of Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent. The crew is hoping to begin filming as early as the end of this year.
